Traxxas Slayer Pro 4x4 (2014) - 59076-1 - Radio Controlled Model

   Introduced by Traxxas in 2014, the Slayer Pro 4x4 Short Course Racing Truck - # 59076-1 - was upgraded with a TQi 2.4Ghz Radio System, over $50 in Included Accessories, including 2-Amp DC Charger and 6-Cell NiMh Battery, and came factory assembled RTR, with a TRX-3.3 Engine with EZ-Start, Mirror-Polish Resonator Dual-Chamber Alloy Pipe, Large High-Volume Dual-Stage Air Filter, 150cc Fuel Tank, and a choice of four pre-painted Race Replica ProGraphix Bodyshells, namely: Mike Jenkins Edition (Traxxas #47), Mark Jenkins Edition (Traxxas #25), Scott Douglas/Mike Oberg Edition (AMSOIL), or Greg Adler Edition (4 Wheel Parts).

   The 4WD model is shaft driven, on a 30mm longer and 26mm wider, blue anodised alloy plate chassis, with sealed gear type differentials, inboard positioned GTR coil spring over oil filled dampers, slipper-clutch, universal joint drive-shafts, 2-speed transmission and a full set of ball bearings.

   To get the best from the Traxxas Slayer Pro 4x4, it needs to be fine tuned, to provide precise steering response and improve grip when cornering, so you don't slide off the track. Keeping Notes

   If all you will ever do is go racing at your local track every week, then this article is not for you. However, if you ever look towards travelling around to different tracks around the country, or even the world, the value of keeping notes is all too obvious.

   Every time I raced in a regional or national competition meeting, I would make detailed notes, aided by a little local knowledge initially, and later fine tuned to suit my own driving style.

   My experience now means there are few, if any outdoor tarmac tracks within a 300 mile radius I haven't been to, and my notes on motor, gearing, camber angles, shock settings, tire choice and what inserts work best for that particular track, amongst others, allow me to save valuable time on the finer points of car setup, that can be done in the warmth of my own home on the kitchen table days before the meeting, instead of the often crippling heat, or the arduous conditions inside a wind blown tent.

Battery Connectors

   Over the years I have been racing radio controlled model cars of all descriptions, I have tried a number of different connectors for my batteries.

   My first car was a Tamiya Boomerang, and of course the batteries I used all had the standard Tamiya connectors, which were fine with the kit supplied 27T silver can electric motor, but I soon discovered their problem when I installed my first Modified motor. The high current demands of the motor created so much heat, the plastic surround of the connectors melted and fused together. No matter how I tried they could not be disconnected. My only option was to cut the wires.

   From there I moved over to Corally connectors, commonly referred to by many now as Bullet connectors. Comprising of a short length of 4mm gold plated tube at one end, and what looks like what we used to call a Chinese lantern fitting that slotted inside the tube, also gold plated. Although they were highly efficient and reasonably easy to install and use, I never really took to this type of connector, I think it was the fact that there was always the possibility of the positive and negative being connected wrongly in poor light, and also that if positioned side by side, each connector could work loose and become exposed, leaving the possibility of a short circuit.
